It’s never a quiet night in the NBA. Even on a day like today, a normal day that doesn’t stand out on the NBA calendar, things can get a little wild in the association.

The big scene today happened in Detroit after Orlando Magic big man Moe Wagner shoved Killian Hayes into the Pistons’ bench. Hayes responded by punching Wagner in the back of the head.

Wagner appears to have been knocked out cold from the punch, but he was seen walking it off just a few moments later.

It’s hard to continue a game after such an aggressive scene, but they are expected to finish the match at some point tonight. No doubt, we can expect several fines and possible suspensions for all the players involved.

Physical Altercations Have Serious Consequences In The NBA

This isn’t the first time the Pistons have been involved in something like this. Last season, Isaiah Stewart infamously charged LeBron James in a moment that will be engrained in the history books forever. In that case, both players got a punishment from the league.

Even in the case of Draymond Green vs. Jordan Poole (two teammates who brawled in practice), things got pretty ugly.

There is no doubt that the video of the incident was damning for Draymond Green. Though the video was of lower quality, we could see that Jordan Poole ended up crumpling after Draymond Green’s blow. NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith recently provided more info about the punch itself, claiming that Draymond Green’s blow ended up knocking out Jordan Poole.

“Draymond Green virtually knocked this dude out. When he lunged into him, and caught him with a flush right,” said Stephen A. Smith. “He fell into him, as well. And that held Jordan Poole up. I was told the brother was knocked out. That’s how vicious the blow was.”

Unlike the Draymond/Poole situation, this fight happened in the middle of a game, so you can bet that the consequences will be harsh.

But for many fans across the association, this is the hype of things they actually want to see more of. Back in the day, emotions used to flare up all the time, and players used to confront each other frequently on the court.

Today, much of that competitive spirit is gone and many fans want it back. But today was the perfect example of why the league has gone with a more careful approach to how far they let tempers rise out on the court.
