Former Memphis Grizzlies star Dillon Brooks was roasted by an NBA analyst soon after the franchise acquired Marcus Smart in a blockbuster three-team trade.

Taking to Twitter, Rob Perez minced no words when he called out Brooks, who was touted to be Memphis’ defensive leader.

“Memphis finally has what Dillon Brooks thought he was.”

Brooks was the first domino to fall after the Grizzlies were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round by the Los Angeles Lakers. While his on and off-court attitude was looked at as the primary reason, his postseason numbers dwindled to 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, leading Perez to make the sharp statement.

In the 73 games he played for the Grizzlies last season, Brooks averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. However, his defensive lapses in the playoffs were one of the factors behind their ouster.

Now, the Grizzlies have a perfect upgrade in Smart, who was the Celtics defense’s centerpiece. He certainly has the game and the experience to bolster the team on the D.

What’s Next For Dillon Brooks?

As far as his future in the league is concerned, Brooks has generated some interest from the Houston Rockets.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, “Dillons Brooks, last seen as Memphis’ starting small forward, is another Rockets target, sources told Yahoo Sports, and appears to be a more realistic candidate to join Houston this summer.”

Recent reports also suggested that he may be looking at a bump in pay in the upcoming season with the Rockets. “If I am a betting man, I would say he probably gets a raise, I think he made $12 million this year. He could conceivably make $17-18 million on this market, ” said The Athletic’s Rockets’ insider Kelly Iko.

The next season gives Brooks a chance to prove himself, and only time will tell if there will be a new and improved version of the forward with whichever franchise picks him up next.
