Draymond Green has ripped into ESPN for posting clickbait. After the Golden State Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Green stated he doesn’t give a damn about the Houston Rockets, when asked if he would be tracking their results, as the two teams are now fighting for that 10th seed.
ESPN shared the quote but not the video of the conversation, which infuriated Green.

I do get the point Green was making there. He was speaking about all the issues that the Warriors have at this moment, like them being a bit too quiet and not having great habits. Green couldn’t care less about what the Rockets or anyone else was doing. The 34-year-old wanted to just focus on his team and them getting better.
Draymond was not trying to be disrespectful toward the Rockets in any way with that statement but that is how it came across without context. It wasn’t a good look for him and the three-time All-Star felt the need to make it clear that this was clickbait.
While the focus certainly needs to be internal for the Warriors, they might need to start keeping an eye on what the Rockets are doing. Houston has won 10 of its last 11 games and now has a 35-35 record this season.
Golden State, meanwhile, dropped to 36-34 following that loss to Minnesota. The Warriors are barely clinging on to that 10th spot in the Western Conference right now, which is also the final spot for the NBA Play-In Tournament.
These two teams will actually meet on April 4, and the winner of that clash might well be the one that makes it in. Unfortunately for the Warriors, the game will be in Houston and the Rockets have the seventh-best home record in the NBA this season at 25-11, so they will be the favorites.
One of those home losses for the Rockets was at the hands of the Warriors at the start of the season, but they are a much better team now than they were back then. The likes of Green, who is averaging 8.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game this season, and Stephen Curry would have to be at their best if Golden State is to pull off a win in that one.
The Warriors Have To Make A Splash This Offseason
Even if the Warriors do end up getting in the tournament and make their way into the playoffs, it’s safe to say they won’t be making a whole lot of noise. At best, this team might win a series, which is why they need to make a splash this offseason if they want to have a chance at winning another title in this Curry era.
Simply put, the Warriors as presently constructed are not contenders and they won’t be next season either. Some major trades are needed, with the likes of Andrew Wiggins needing to be shipped out of town.
Someone like Jonathan Kuminga might have to go as well, as he is arguably the only player on the roster, who has a lot of trade value apart from Curry. Kuminga is a very good player who might become a star one day, but if the Warriors are to win now, they need someone who is a star right now.
