On the latest episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Draymond Green discussed the recent availability of Monty Williams on the coaching market and suggested that the Los Angeles Lakers should seriously consider hiring him. Green pointed out that with the NBA draft and free agency approaching, the Lakers need to make a quick decision regarding their head coach position.

“Monty Williams is now on the free agent market, and I know that the Los Angeles Lakers have been like, I don’t know what’s going on, but I know something’s going to happen fast because you got the draft coming up, you got free agency coming up.”

“I know Anthony Davis loved Monty Williams when he played for him at New Orleans. So you ask yourself, should the Lakers consider Monty Williams? And I say, of course, you got to consider him 100%, especially with that tie.”

Green highlighted the strong connection between Anthony Davis and Monty Williams from their time together in New Orleans. Davis, who played under Williams when he was the head coach of the Pelicans, reportedly had a positive relationship with him. Green emphasized that this existing rapport could be beneficial for the Lakers, particularly in maximizing Davis’s performance and overall team cohesion.

The suggestion to consider Williams for the Lakers’ coaching role isn’t new. Notably, Stephen A. Smith has also advocated for the Lakers to explore this option following Williams’s departure from the Detroit Pistons. Smith argued that Williams’s track record and experience make him a valuable candidate for any team looking to improve its performance.

Williams’s coaching career includes a stint with the Phoenix Suns, where he led the team to the NBA Finals in 2021 and was named NBA Coach of the Year in 2022. Despite a challenging season with the Pistons, his overall coaching pedigree remains impressive. His ability to develop young talent and foster a winning culture could be exactly what the Lakers need to bounce back after a disappointing season.

Moreover, the Lakers have been linked to other potential coaching candidates, including JJ Redick. However, the prospect of bringing in a seasoned coach like Williams could provide the stability and expertise required for a team with championship aspirations.

Given the urgency of the situation with the draft and free agency on the horizon, making a swift and strategic decision regarding their head coach is crucial for the Lakers.

Monty Williams’s availability presents a timely opportunity for the Lakers to secure a coach with a proven track record and a strong connection to one of their star players, Anthony Davis. As Green and Smith suggest, considering Williams could be a pivotal move in the Lakers’ quest to return to championship contention.
