Dwyane Wade: “CP3 Didn’t Come To Miami Because We Couldn’t Come To An Agreement On No. 3.”

Dwyane Wade has explained why Chris Paul didn’t join the Miami Heat last offseason when Paul was heavily linked with the team amid trade rumors. CP3 was part of the Houston Rockets until last season. Several rumors suggested his relationship with James Harden wasn’t the best, which led to his departure from the Toyota Center.

He landed in Oklahoma City to make the Thunder one of the biggest surprises of the season before the suspension, but things could have been different for the All-Star point guard. As stated above, CP3 had the chance to play for the Miami Heat, but that never happened.

During an Instagram live, Dwyane Wade, one of Paul’s best friends and part of the famous ‘banana boat crew’, revealed why that didn’t come to fruition.

“CP didn’t come to Miami because we couldn’t come to an agreement on No. 3,” Wade said.

Paul even replied to Wade saying he wasn’t known as ‘DW3’, contrary to him. However, that wasn’t the only reason why Chris didn’t land in South Beach. His contract is hefty and Miami wasn’t the team with the right cap space to afford his arrival.

This season he was set to make $38,506,482 and $41,358,814 in 2020-21. In the end, he went to play for the Thunder, leading a young group of players to have a hell of a season in a stacked Western Conference. OKC had a 40-24 record before the league suspended the season, the biggest proof of Paul’s tremendous season.

As for Miami, they signed Jimmy Butler, who did a very good job with the young players of the team. Moreover, seeing what CP3 did with the young Thunder, imagine how good he would have been with Miami and the likes of Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, Kendrick Nunn, and co.
