John Stockton is one of the most underrated point guards in NBA history. Stockton was an absolute star during his time in the league. While his point tallies were never otherworldly, Stockton always stood out on the playmaking end of things. Stockton is still the NBA’s all-time leading assist getter, and holds that honor with a healthy distance. Stockton is remembered as one of the greatest playmakers in the league’s history.

But despite his incredible play in the 80s and 90s, Stockton was never able to win an NBA championship. Both he and Karl Malone tried their best to get the Jazz a title but fell short to Michael Jordan on two occasions. Stockton has jokingly roasted Jordan in the past about the shot he made to win the 1998 NBA title, but that can be the only regret of an otherwise historic career.

While his NBA career didn’t end with a championship, Stockton did find success with Team USA. Stockton was a key member of the Dream Team that won Olympic Gold at the 1992 Barcelona Games. But despite being part of a legendary outfit, Stockton wasn’t a name that people did well to remember.

During the 1992 Olympics, John Stockton roamed the streets of Barcelona with a video camera. In the video below, he jokingly remarked that he was “really not much different to Michael Jordan walking around here”. He then encountered an American fan and proceeded to ask her some of her favorite players. The fan mentioned Charles Barkley, having met Chuck a few days before. When Stockton’s son pointed out his father on the woman’s Dream Team shirt, she was amazed.

Stockton proved to be a key member of the 1992 Dream Team. He and Magic Johnson were the two primary point guards for the squad. And with such legendary playmakers calling the shots, it is no wonder that Team USA bagged the gold in Barcelona.
