Dennis Schroder is known for shining while representing Germany. Their recent warm-up game ahead of the 2025 EuroBasket was no different, as Schroder put up a clutch driving layup to win the game against the reigning champions, Spain, in overtime.

In the closing seconds of OT, Schroder received the ball at the top of the key. In a mismatch against Spanish forward Juancho Hernangomez, the German star leveraged his quickness to drive past his defender for a tough finish at the rim.

The shot secured a one-point lead for Germany with eight seconds left on the clock, securing a 106-105 OT win in their last warm-up game before the start of the tournament.

Schroder’s heroics while representing his country did not go unnoticed. News of his game-winner sent fans into a frenzy. With some reacting to the shot on social media, we take a look at what they said on X.

“Bro, this basket was so tuff wtf,” said one fan, in awe of Schroder’s finishing skill.

“He got Bo Cruz!” joked another, while referring to Hernangomez’s famous role in the Netflix feature film, “Hustle”.

“Schroder is nice outside of the NBA,” added one user.

“Germany really said: In Schroder we trust,” said another.

One fan acknowledged the shot by saying, “And that’s how you play ball.”

Another added on to this with, “Let’s go, Germany!! My pick to win the Euros!!”

A user made a key observation about the guard by noting, “Schroder really loves playing hero ball when it’s national team time.”

Meanwhile, another simply acknowledged the intricacies of the shot and said, “Great follow-through to the end of the bucket.”

“Germany is coming with fire,” stated one excited fan.

“Yeah, but nobody in Germany will ever love him like Dirk, so what’s the point?” claimed another, addressing the harsh reality of things.

Schroder’s performance against Spain was nothing short of inspiring. In a game featuring some talented players on the German squad, including the Orlando Magic‘s star forward Franz Wagner, the 31-year-old veteran guard stood out the most.

Schroder led Germany’s scoring effort with 24 points and 10 assists. He was closely supported by Wagner, who contributed to the win with 19 points and seven assists. The game also saw some strong performances by the defending champions, as Dario Brizuela led Spain’s scoring with 20 points for the game.

The win gave Germany a 4-1 record in the warm-up games leading up to the 2025 EuroBasket. Germany will enter the group stages as a part of Group B, paired with Finland, Great Britain, Lithuania, Sweden, and Montenegro.

With some of the best players in the world competing at the tournament, Schroder and Germany will have their work cut out for them. In a powerful position while entering the competition, the German team is certainly viewed as one of the favorites to win it all.
