• Michael Jordan was one of the most competitive players in league history

• He didn’t respond well to losing, something Bulls’ rookie Corey Williams found out the hard way during his rookie season

• Williams beat Jordan at a game of pool and ‘His Airness’ kept asking for rematches until he beat Williams

Michael Jordan was not only focused on winning NBA championships but focused on winning any wager he got into. That turned unpleasant for the six-time champion in 1992-93 after he kept losing at pool to a Bulls’ rookie, Corey Williams. Williams narrated the story to the Daytona Beach News Journal

“Mike was pretty good but didn’t understand how good I was. He kept saying, ‘One more game, one more, one more.’ I kept beating him. Finally, an hour later, I got to leave. When you look back at it, I’m playing pool with the greatest player of all time, and I’m trying to get out of there, but he wouldn’t let me leave.”

Williams claims he had pocked about $1,500 by the point. He then described how MJ asked him to come shopping with him after the night, but Williams refused, something he regrets to this day.

Michael Jordan Got Corey Williams A Championship Ring

Even though Williams regrets not going out shopping with Jordan, he definitely doesn’t have any regrets about being his teammate. The pair would win the 1993 NBA Championship together, the third title of Michael’s career.

Jordan averaged 35.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game in the 1993 Playoffs, while Williams didn’t play in the postseason. His season stats from 1992-93 reflect his minimal involvement, averaging 2.3 points per game in 35 appearances.

His NBA career didn’t last long, as that was the only season he spent with the Bulls. He spent another year with the Minnesota Timberwolves but was soon out of the league. Now, he is an assistant coach for Auburn University.

Rubbing shoulders with greatness always has to feel good, and Williams will always have an incredible real-life example to refer to while teaching the kids on his NCAA team to be winners.
