The Los Angeles Lakers scouted heavily to ensure Maxwell Lewis was drafted by the team in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft. The high-upside offensive swingman is excited to join the Lakers and start his NBA journey. Meanwhile, his friends are more concerned about him playing alongside LeBron James, as he revealed to LA Downtown News.
“Playing with LeBron James, literally that is all my friends talk about. Me being on the team, me playing with LeBron… Those big-time veterans can coach me and make me a better player. Getting that feedback, watching what they do, (I’ll) learn from them.”
Lewis averaged 16.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists for Pepperdine in college last season. He had a very disappointing Summer League showing, averaging just 5.4 points per game on 32.4% from the field and 16.7% from three. He may not have an instant impact in LA, but he could grow into a valuable asset.

“Well, first off, my dad put a Laker Fathead in my room of Kobe, so I always saw that. I’ve just always been around just Laker (stuff)… Just his mentality. Just how much he works. I watch his motivation videos in the morning sometimes. Just little things like that to keep it installed in my head about how hard he worked.”
Everyone appreciates Kobe for what he did for the Lakers, even if they aren’t massive fans of the franchise. His 20-year commitment to the Lakers is admired by everyone in sports.
