Former Los Angeles Lakers guard NBA champion, Michael Cooper, didn’t hold back in his scathing assessment of the Boston Celtics’ offseason moves. In a recent episode of his Showtime With Coop podcast, Cooper took aim at the Celtics’ decisions, particularly their acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis:

“Who the hell is he? The one thing I’ll say about him is that he looks like a Celtic. That guy there was a flop in Dallas, was a flop in Washington.”

“This guy was bought over from Europe. He is probably here to be a marquee player.”

The Celtics made waves this summer when they engaged in a three-way trade that saw veteran guard Marcus Smart depart in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis. The 7-foot-3 forward/center was intended to address Boston’s need for size and versatility in the frontcourt.

Despite the fact that Porzingis averaged 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.5 blocks last season, Cooper didn’t shy away. He didn’t hold back in expressing his disapproval of the move and made his sentiments clear on his podcast.

Kristaps Porzingis Has Major Injury concerns

The Boston Celtics’ recent acquisition of all-star center Kristaps Porzingis has raised eyebrows and concerns due to his lingering foot injury. Porzingis, who has a history of foot and leg issues, including an ACL tear that sidelined him for over a season, has been ruled out of the FIBA World Cup due to plantar fasciitis.

Porzingis’ injury history has led to uncertainty about his availability for the upcoming NBA season. The 7-foot-3 big man’s potential impact on the new-look Celtics team might be hindered by this nagging injury.

The acquisition of Porzingis also signals a shift in the Celtics’ strategy, reducing reliance on veteran players like Al Horford and injury-prone Robert Williams. The combination of Porzingis and Williams offers a versatile frontcourt rotation that coach Joe Mazula can utilize effectively.

While Porzingis’ injury concerns cast a shadow of doubt, his potential to impact the Celtics’ performance remains intact. The team’s hopes for a stronger playoff run hinge on his ability to contribute consistently.

As the regular season approaches, Boston fans eagerly await his return to the court, hoping that his injury concerns won’t stand in the way of a successful campaign.
