Oftentimes, NBA players purchase stakes in franchises from other sports. Aside from it being a solid investment from a business standpoint, owning a stake in a sports franchise could also be great for an NBA player if they are also fans of the sport.

LeBron James is one of the stars who has invested in an MLB franchise, and it was announced earlier this year that he has become a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox. Giannis Antetokounmpo is the latest player to follow that path, and it was announced by the Milwaukee Brewers that Giannis Antetokounmpo is now a part-owner of their franchise. An article by Jeff Passan of ESPN provided some more details on the deal and featured statements from both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio.

“We are honored to have Giannis join our team of Milwaukee Brewers investors,” Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio said in a statement. “Giannis is a great athlete, a world champion, and a true local hero with international renown.”

Antetokounmpo is the first individual investor to join the team’s ownership group since Attanasio purchased the team in 2005.

“The city of Milwaukee means so much to me,” Antetokounmpo said in a statement. “I am honored to be joining the Brewers ownership group to further my commitment and dedication to this great community. I take great pride in my city and I’m excited about what we can build together.”

The Brewers also appear to be a sound investment. The team holds an 8½-game lead in the NL Central entering play Friday night and has won four of its last five games.

There’s no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a sports hero for the city of Milwaukee, and he has stated numerous times that he loves the city. His purchase of the Brewers further solidifies his ties to the city, and with his supermax deal, it looks as though he’s staying in Milwaukee for a long time.
