Giannis Antetokounmpo: “I Don’t Care About Being The Face Of The NBA. KD Or Harden Can Be.”

2 Min Read

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the most recent Finals MVP, with him having led the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2020-21 NBA championship. He is coming off of an amazing season, averaging 28.1 PPG, 11.0 RPG, and 5.9 APG. He is only 26 right now, and it is clear that he still has many amazing years left.

There are a lot of young talents that have been slated to become the next face of the NBA after superstars such as LeBron James and Kevin Durant retire. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been one of them, and this championship run only helped his case. However, it seems as though Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t interested in being in that role. He mentioned Kevin Durant and James Harden as two candidates for the role and mentioned that he would just like to be known as a “hard worker”.

It is clear that Giannis Antetokounmpo has remained humble despite the fact that he is the most recent superstar to win a championship. Both of his fellow superstars have a case to be the face of the NBA, though a lot of people would argue that Kevin Durant is the better player. James Harden averaged 24.6 PPG, 7.9 RPG, and 10.8 APG, seamlessly shifting his playstyle to work in the Brooklyn Nets’ system. Kevin Durant put up 26.9 PPG, 7.1 RPG, and 5.6 APG after coming back from an Achilles injury this season, and his shot creation has remained lethal. Giannis Antetokounmpo notably called Kevin Durant the best player in the world in the past.

There is no doubt that there is still some debate on who is the best player in the world and who is the future face of the NBA after the results of this season. Perhaps next season will provide some clarity, and we’ll see if Kevin Durant and James Harden stake their claim to that title.
