The NBA is full of drama both on and off the field. But when a fight breaks out on the court, there are a plethora of people who can step in and stop the fight at any given moment.

However, that’s not the case when a fight breaks out outside the hardwood; there’s not much the league can do about it. We are sure you must be aware of the infamous incident between Matt Barnes and Derek Fisher back in 2015.

Barnes apparently drove around 95 miles to engage in a fight with Derek Fisher. The reason behind it was that Fisher, the then-New York Knicks coach, was dating Barnes’ estranged wife, Gloria Govan.

During his career in the league, Barnes had established a reputation as a bad boy. So the fans weren’t shocked when they learned that Barnes apparently fought Fisher.

But did anyone try to stop the fight? Was someone else involved in the incident? As it turns out, the answer is a resounding yes. Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas revealed in an interview with VLADTV earlier this year that he tried to resolve the fight.

In the above-mentioned interview, Arenas explains how he tried to tell Barnes that it was a bad idea. But since Barnes was already flooding with anger, he ignored all the warnings from his friend.

Following the incident, Barnes and Fisher weren’t on talking terms for several years. It seems like they have finally found a way to at least stay in one room together. In fact, the two even spent their kids’ birthdays together back in 2020.

At the end of the day, regardless of how many years have passed since that ugly fight, some bad blood between the two former NBA players will certainly remain.
