Gilbert Arenas has made a bold statement regarding a potential trade involving the Houston Rockets and the New York Knicks. According to Arenas, the Rockets would likely decline an offer of Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson for Jalen Green.

Arenas expressed the high value he places on Jalen Green, stating:

“This is how good that Jalen Green is. You give them Randle and Brunson right now, I guarantee they turn you down. Because he’s the future, right? Once you get the future, you build on it. He’s 21, 22 years old.”

The former NBA star highlighted the youth and potential of Jalen Green, suggesting that the Rockets, with an eye on the future, would be unwilling to part ways with the emerging star even if it meant acquiring established players like Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson.

Green, who joined the Rockets as the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has shown promise with his scoring ability and athleticism. Despite a regression in performance during his third season, the Rockets seem invested in his development as a key piece for the team’s future success.

It’s important to note that this is purely Gilbert Arenas‘ perspective, and actual trade decisions depend on the priorities and strategies of the respective teams. Trading established players for a promising young talent like Jalen Green involves weighing current competitiveness against long-term potential, making it a complex decision for any team, including the Rockets.

The Rockets Should Not Give Up On Jalen Green

The Houston Rockets have valid reasons not to lose faith in Jalen Green despite recent uncertainties surrounding his performance.  Despite a challenging stretch where Green scored less than 10 points in several games, his continuous hard work and the unwavering faith from coaches and teammates have kept him confident. Coach Ime Udoka emphasized the importance of Green remaining aggressive and impacting the game beyond scoring.

The presence of breakout star Alperen Sengun has also played a role in enhancing Green’s performance. The chemistry between Green and Sengun has made the game easier for both players, with Coach Udoka expressing a desire to implement a two-man game plan involving them.

Jalen Green has a lot of potential and he showed it in his second year in the league, averaging, 22.1 points,3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting 41.6% from the field and 33.8% from 3-point range. His averages this year have dropped significantly as he is averaging 17.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 40.6% from the field and 35.7% from 3-point range. This could be attributed to the rise of Alperen Sengun and the arrival of Dillon Brooks.

While concerns have been raised about Green’s inconsistency and struggles, it’s crucial to remember that he is only 21 years old and still adapting to Coach Udoka’s new system. Patience and continued development are key for young players, and Green’s recent positive performances suggest that he is on the right track. The Rockets should maintain optimism about his potential and provide the necessary support for his growth and improvement.
