After a tumultuous season and a half with the Los Angeles Lakers, Russell Westbrook was traded to the Utah Jazz ahead of the 2023 trade deadline, ending his tenure on the Purple and Gold. His stint was full of ups and downs, with many fans criticizing him for his performances.

This season he showed a little improvement in his game, making an impact on the Lakers coming off the bench. The former NBA MVP earned some praise for his performances, but it still wasn’t enough to convince Lakers fans that he deserved to stay on the team.

The Lakers finally traded him last week, and Russ is now figuring out what to do with his future, with a series of teams like the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Clippers trying to acquire his services.

Russell Westbrook Is Still An Impactful Player, According To Gilbert Arenas

Russ could be a solid addition to any of these teams, but Arenas think that the veteran point guard can do much more than that. Gilbert has claimed that Westbrook could decide who wins the 2023 NBA championship. During the most recent edition of “No Chill with Gilbert Arenas,” the former NBA player made a bold take about Russell Westbrook (26:22 mark).

“This man alone changes who wins the championship this year,” Arenas started.

“If Westbrook calls KD and says, ‘I want to come help win a championship, I’ll come off the bench.’ KD’s gonna say, ‘alright.’ If he goes to Boston, you don’t think that makes them better than the Bucks? You don’t think that puts them over the edge? If he goes to Milwaukee, you don’t think that puts them over the edge? If he goes to Philly?”

Arenas also mentioned the Denver Nuggets as a potential landing spot for Russ that would do great with him coming off the bench. He also talked about the Golden State Warriors, who need to add a couple of more pieces to return to their best level.

Westbrook really showed that he’s capable of adapting to new roles this season, and with the right mindset, in the right situation, he could do a lot to help any team win. There are many contenders in the league right now, and adding Westbrook as their sixth man could be huge for them. Time will tell how this situation unfolds, but Russ is ready to prove his value once again.
