Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis Says He Once Wrestled Shaquille O’Neal And Body Slammed Him: “I’m Like Grabbing Him, Holding Him And Next Thing You Know, I Slam Him Down Like A Wrestler.”

Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis got his famous nickname when he was just 9 years old and it has stuck for the rest of his life as well. A massive human being, Davis spent 8 seasons in the NBA primarily as a solid role player. After being traded on draft night to the Celtics, he would win a title in 2008 in his rookie year with the team before going on to play for the Magic and the Clippers.

Before all of that transpired, though, he was a successful college athlete at LSU, where he got to meet their most famous alumni in the NBA world, Shaquille O’Neal. The two bonded during Davis’ time there and he recounted a hilarious story of how a wrestling match was the start of their relationship during an interview with DJ Vlad.

(starts at 9:37 mark):

“Shaq comes out of nowhere and was like, ‘Let’s go outside… let’s get down (and wrestle)’. So you know how you wrestle, you get into position. So, I’m in the position, and I’m like grabbing him, holding him and next thing you know, I slam him down like a wrestler. He was like, ‘God damn. You’re a big ass kid!’ So that’s how me and his relationship really started.”

It is hard to believe that Davis ended up body slamming Shaq of all people, but we will go by his word here. They were both massive human beings and we suppose it is possible that he would have been able to pull that off. These two would also end up becoming teammates on the Celtics in 2010-11 after Shaq joined the team in his quest for another championship.

While O’Neal would fail to accomplish his goal of winning a title with the team, Davis did win it all with them in 2008, as mentioned earlier. He had to go up against LeBron James and the Cavaliers to accomplish that and Davis claimed that the King cried too much during his battles with the Celtics. We doubt LeBron responds in any way to those comments and he did end up getting the last laugh after all, as he eliminated those Celtics from the postseason in 2011 and 2012.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
