Grant Williams is about to join the Dallas Mavericks, having been part of a sign-and-trade between them and the Boston Celtics. As such, he is already buying into the team culture and shared his excitement about playing alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Williams is known for being a pest on defense, and he has often clashed with Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns. The Mavericks and the Suns, more specifically Doncic and Booker, have had a rivalry since that legendary Game 7 in the 2022 NBA Playoffs. And Williams recently spoke about it.

“The one person that has always talked trash to me for some reason is Devin Booker,” Williams said on the Old Man And The Three podcast. “Book always talks trash. And I remember if you look back at that Pheonix game during the regular season, we played them. I think it was in Pheonix this year. From the start, I’m talking… I was doing ‘too small.’

“I remember talking trash that entire game to Book. Cuz he always likes talking trash for some reason. And I think that helps because we’re in Dallas now. And Phoenix, him, and Luka already have this beef going. Whatever else you call it. So I might be able to join in and have some competitive vibes.”

In the 2022 Western Conference Semifinals, Devin Booker talked trash to Luka Doncic about the ‘Luka Special’ after the Suns convincingly won Game 5. Doncic then had his legendary ‘Everybody acts tough when they up,’ moment and helped his team to Game 7 where they blew the Suns out. There is a rivalry and Grant Williams will be an interesting addition to that dynamic.

Grant Williams Has Also Bantered With Jayson Tatum Already

Grant Williams knows a thing or two about upcoming NBA superstars, having played alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown all these years. And he is now seemingly feeling great about pairing up with Luka Doncic because he also talked smack to Tatum after his move to Dallas

“I’m gonna bust your a** when we play Dallas,” Tatum told Grant at dinner last week. “You think?” Williams said. “You can’t go left. And I’m gonna be physical with you and you’ll go cry to the referees.”

Grant Williams will definitely be in the thick of it all with the Mavericks, the team will be hoping to get back into championship contention this coming season. If Luka Doncic can take it to another level, then the sky is the limit for Dallas.
