Draymond Green and LeBron James were once rivals, but the two have become extremely close over the last few years.
Draymond Green is represented by Klutch Sports and as such, has interacted with LeBron James a lot off the court. And this has led to speculation he might join the Lakers once he becomes a free agent. And now he’s been called out for it.
The words of an anonymous league source were reported by Heavy’s Sean Deveny, and they said, “I mean, Draymond has been on LeBron’s (private regions) all year, so that tells you something about what he wanted to have happen. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
This is an aggressive way to call Draymond Green out. While he has been vocal in his appreciation for LeBron James, to suggest that it’s all angling for a move to the Los Angeles Lakers is more than a little presumptuous. And another source also spoke to Deveney earlier in the year, talking about a potential move and calling Draymond a ‘puppy dog.’
“They like Draymond, LeBron wants Draymond, Draymond has been following LeBron around like a puppy dog these last couple of years,” they said.
There seems to be this general idea around the NBA that Draymond Green has gotten too close to LeBron James. Considering the era of stars building teams together, the disdain for it is a bit natural. But some of these takes are also a bit extreme, Green can appreciate James without there being something nefarious at play.
Draymond Green Called LeBron James The ‘Greatest Face The NBA Has Ever Had’
If Draymond Green wants to not be viewed in this way, perhaps he can tone it down a little with how much he is praising a direct conference rival. He said LeBron James is the only player with a resume that stacks up with his. And in another conversation, he referred to him as the greatest face the league has ever had.
“When you look at those three things, it’s a testament to how he lives his life,” Warriors star Draymond Green told USA TODAY Sports. “I recently said he’s the greatest face the NBA has ever had.
“Think about the day and age we live in – cameras, social media – he’s never had a scandal. Never been arrested. Never photo’d drunk. Those things go hand in hand with durability, longevity, consistency… It’s a testament to the discipline he has in his life, and basketball is a result of that.”
When things get so pally between star players like Green and James, questions are bound to be asked. And only time will tell if Draymond Green will end up a Laker. But whether he does or not, it’s safe to say that his appreciation for LeBron isn’t taken as innocently by those around the league as it might normally have been.
