Former Washington Wizards guard Rip Hamilton revealed how Michael Jordan was the cynosure of all eyes, not just for his mere presence but also for his Jordan brand merchandise.

“That was the year that I used to beg MJ for his shoes because he used to walk around the locker room with all the samples,” Hamilton told Complex

“So that was one of the luxuries of playing with him. He would come into the locker room every day with a different sample shoe, a sample shirt, or whatever. He would get the response of all the young kids. Because you got to remember, Michael Jordan was a little older at the time. We were 20, 21. So he was able to get real opinions off of kids that were 20, 21 years old that had a huge impact on the sneaker culture.”

It could also be a smart business ploy from Jordan, who could use the players in the squad as a target audience and feedback for his new Jordan products.

And when it came to Hamilton hoping that MJ would give him a pair of shoes, the six-time NBA champion had a crisp response: Hey, Rip, my sneakers are for All-Stars.”

Over the years, the Jordan brand has become the go-to sneakers that are considered wardrobe staples. With an array of color schemes, the Jordans, as they are popularly called, continue to be a huge hit in the shoe market.

Nike And Michael Jordan Have Been In A Partnership For 38 Long Years

Rolling back the clock to 1985, Michael Jordan and Nike began what would be their longstanding partnership that turned 38 years in October 2022.

Despite favoring Adidas initially, Jordan inked a five-year, $2.5 million deal with Nike. It was a record-breaking contract at the time, and Nike’s deal came with four clauses all of which Jordan fulfilled in his maiden season in the NBA. In his first season, Jordan was voted to the All-Star team and All-NBA Second Team, in addition to winning Rookie of the Year and averaging over 20 PPG.

And by the looks of it, this partnership will stay rock solid for the years to come.
