The 2022-23 regular season finally comes to an end on Sunday and the leaders for various statistical categories have been decided.
Joel Embiid is set to win his second straight scoring title as he is averaging 33.1 PPG, but Jalen Rose believes that the league should change how it determines the leaders for the season.
“The NBA’s league leaders should be based on highest total, not highest average,” Rose said.

If total points were counted, then it would be Jayson Tatum who would be crowned as the scoring leader, as he has 2,225 points to 2,183 for Embiid. NBA fans had mixed reactions to Rose’s suggestion.
A fan felt that as long a player plays a certain amount of games, it should be the average that counts, as is the case right now.
I disagree! As long as you play a certain amount of game the averages matter most

Another fan agreed with Rose and said it was a better way to stop players from sitting out of games.
I was just thinking about this and I totally agree. This is also a better way to prevent sitting out than the 65 game rule

A Philadelphia 76ers fan thinks Rose is only bringing this up because he is upset over a past exchange he had with Embiid.

A fan hilariously said Mikal Bridges would win every award then, as he never misses games and could play in 83 games this season.
Mikal winning everything then

A fan agreed with Rose by stating that the best ability is availability.
The best ability is availability.

The NBA is unlikely to make a change here, though, but it is an interesting idea. To go with the change for the scoring leader, Trae Young would be the league leader in assists instead of James Harden. Domantas Sabonis, meanwhile, is leading the NBA in total rebounds as well as rebounds per game, so there would be no change there.
Trae would certainly seem to be the biggest beneficiary if this rule had been in place from last season, as he had led the league in both total points and assists. Young had put out a tweet in which he agreed with Rose as well, before deleting it.
Jalen Rose Found Himself In A Bit Of Trouble Recently
Rose found himself in some hot water during a recent appearance on NBA Today. He hugged host Malika Andrews and seemingly had his finger in her armpit, which led to Andrews telling him to get it off of her. It was a bit of an awkward situation, but the two carried on with the show.
A rumor soon spread that Rose had been fired by ESPN for perceived misconduct but it turned out to be fake. He has been working at the network since 2007, when he retired, and has been a regular guest on a lot of their shows. He looks set to continue there for the foreseeable future now, despite that bizarre incident.
