Jamal Crawford Compares Kyrie Irving To Kanye West: “When He’s Playing Basketball, He Doesn’t Look At Himself As Playing Basketball. He Is Looking Like He’s Painting Pictures… He’s A Genius That Way. He’s An Artist.”

Kyrie Irving is one of the most brilliant basketball players of his generation. His skill with the ball is undeniable, as Kyrie is widely considered to be one of the greatest dribbles that the game has ever seen. He is a microwave scorer, capable of getting hot at any point. He proved this with a 60-point game last season despite all the issues with his lack of playing time.

Despite all his undeniable skill, Kyrie is a very controversial figure. His stance on the vaccine mandate made him a political figure unwittingly, even though his focus was trying to find a middle ground to get back to playing basketball without mandates affecting him.

Jamal Crawford has been an admirer of Kyrie’s game for a long time and believes that the Nets point guard is the same as Kanye West in terms of how they approach their jobs. While one is a ball player and the other is a musician, both look at themselves as artists.

(29:29): “Kyrie is very artsy. So, when he’s playing basketball, he doesn’t look at himself as playing basketball. He looking like he’s painting pictures. He thinks like an artist.”

“With an artist, you have this canvas. I may draw over here. It may be red. I draw over here. It’s blue, which is like red and blue don’t go together. He’s like, ‘Nah, they go together in my beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy like Kanye. He’s a genius that way. He’s an artist,” Crawford said

Crawford made a good comparison, but Kanye made a billion-dollar company based on his artistic expression. Kyrie may have some of the best signature shoes available in the Nike roster, but he himself is not the creator or owner of the shoe brand and trademark.

On the court, I agree that Kyrie is an artist. Anything that can serve to amuse someone can be considered art and watching Irving move with the basketball is an artistic experience for anyone who can enjoy it. Kanye and Kyrie are pretty good comparisons for a lot of reasons but they are both distinctly unique individuals with wildly different skill-sets, with the commonality of them being ‘artists’. One is an artist on the court, the other is an artist in the design room or on stage.
