- 76ers are still in talks regarding Harden trade
- Morey and Harden have not spoken “in a while”
- The former friends are ‘done’ with each other after fallout from the offseason
Back in Houston, James Harden and Daryl Morey had a tight connection that helped the franchise achieve a span of unprecedented prosperity. Then, after Morey left the Rockets in 2020, he played a leading role in their reunion in Philly years later.
It was Morey’s presence that initially sold Harden on the 76ers and it looked to be the perfect opportunity at the time, but it didn’t take long for things to turn sour and now that Harden has requested a trade from Philly, their relationship has become unsalvagable.
“There’s still been dialogue between the two teams. As for Harden and Daryl Morey, it’s been a while since they’ve spoken, and their relationship is done,” reported HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
It makes sense that the two are no longer on speaking terms given how this trade saga is playing out. At the end of this, someone is going to get screwed over and it’ll probably be the Sixers.
With only one year on his deal, Philly has no leverage in trade talks and James can just up and leave for nothing next summer, which he will surely do if he’s somehow still in Philly by that time.
As for why James only wants the Clippers, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out why a star would want to go there.
James Harden’s Future Is Uncertain
In LA, Harden could compete for a title while still having a major role on the team. Next to Kawhi and PG, he would thrive in the backcourt as a playmaker and passer for the group.
Even still, at 33 years old, James is on the decline and the signs are already starting to show. After wasting so much time in Houston and Brooklyn, this may be James’ last real chance to win it all before it’s over.
As for Morey and the Sixers, they are going to do what’s best for the team, even if it means sending Harden somewhere he didn’t want to go.
