76ers guard James Harden may not be an All-Star this year, but he’s certainly the MVP when it comes to giving back to the community.

After Michigan State University became the site of a tragic mass shooting on Monday, 20-year-old John Hao became paralyzed from the neck down after sustaining injuries to his spinal cord caused by the shooting.

Harden, after hearing about his story, decided to help Hao by donating to his GoFundMe, hooking him up with some new kicks, and offering some words of encouragement.

“He sent sneakers, including one pair that was game-worn,” reported ESPN’s Malika Andrews. “He contributed to his GoFundMe setup to alleviate some of the medical bills, and spent time encouraging the young man.”

It’s a great act of kindness from Harden, and no doubt a blessing to Hao and his family during this difficult time.

“Everything will work itself out, be strong,” said Harden via video chat. “You’re alright, you’ll be alright. I promise you are. Yeah, for sure. I love when you’re smiling too, alright? I’m with you. I know it’s tough right now but you just have to stay physically strong you know what I mean? You just gotta think positive things and just keep pushing and keep fighting. I got some gifts for you, too. Thing coming your way.”

Last week, 20-year-old John Hao’s life was changed forever. He was one of the students shot at Michigan State University and was left paralyzed from the waist down. Hao is a huge fan of James Harden, and when Harden heard Hao’s story, he stepped in: pic.twitter.com/Htm2RXRdQ2

Of course, this is hardly Harden’s first time giving back to the community. During his days in Houston, he poured millions into building up the city and helped many people get their lives back on track.

It’s nice to know that Harden is still doing those things today and maybe his act of generosity (which is going viral on the internet) will inspire other NBA athletes to take action and do more to help others.

Can James Harden Lead The 76ers To A Title?

As great as Harden is doing off the court, he’s getting paid to produce during games. Fortunately, he’s been doing just fine this season with averages of 21.4 points, 10.8 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game on 45.1% shooting.

Alongside Joel Embiid, the 76ers have been one of the top teams in the East this year and they look like a real threat to win it all.

Harden, for better or worse, is going to be key to the success of this Sixers squad, and if he can keep up his strong play then the 76ers have a chance to beat anyone in the league.
