James Harden was seen speaking to young, aspiring basketball players. While giving them advice on how to find success in the NBA, he brought the example of Tyrese Maxey, who recently signed a five-year, $204 million contract with the 76ers. Harden stated that players need to earn the big money contracts in the NBA.

James Harden: “I got the pleasure & opportunity to be with Tyrese 2 years ago. He worked his a** off. What did you just sign for?”

Tyrese Maxey: “$204 million.”

Harden: “Bank! Cherish it. Put the work in. The results will pay off later.”

Despite Harden’s acrimonious exit from the 76ers, he seems to respect Tyrese Maxey and cherishes his time playing alongside him. The former 76ers backcourt players have a lot of respect for each other, and Harden made sure that young players understand why Maxey’s blueprint is one they should follow.

Tyrese Maxey was selected with the 21st pick by the 76ers in the 2020 NBA Draft. Since then, he has surpassed expectations, becoming an All-Star and one of the best young guards in the Eastern Conference. Maxey has now established himself as one of the cornerstones of the franchise.

Last season, Maxey had a great year, averaging 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and named the NBA’s Most Improved Player. Maxey is sure to become even better going forward, and help the 76ers in the long run.

Next season, Maxey will get the chance to play alongside Harden’s former Clippers teammate Paul George, who signed a massive $212 million contract with the 76ers. George joins Maxey and Joel Embiid to form one of the best trios in the NBA and make the 76ers a threat in the Eastern Conference.

Will Maxey Make Another Jump Next Season?

There might be some concerns about Maxey’s development now that he plays with George, another big star along with Embiid who needs the ball in their hands. A big part of Maxey’s improvement was him becoming one of the trusted ball handlers on the team along with Joel Embiid.

Maxey for his part, has made no such bones about playing with George, welcoming him with open arms, and even appearing on his podcast recently to discuss his upcoming appearance with the 76ers. Maxey even gave George advice on how to deal with 76ers fans and warned them about how passionate they can be.

This trio will be a dominant force in the Eastern Conference, and provide a lot of competition to teams like the Celtics and the Knicks. These three teams are expected to be the frontrunners in the Eastern Conference.

With the Celtics being the defending champions, they will have a target on their bag from the entire league. The 76ers will look to capitalize on this, as they look to close ground on the Celtics, and finally reach the Eastern Conference Finals in the Embiid era.
