With a total of 38,387 points scored in the NBA, LeBron James stands on the verge of making NBA history. Currently, he is sitting just 63 points away from surpassing Kareem on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list.
It’s a huge milestone for James and a major moment in sports history that the NBA will no doubt celebrate.
Already, players and coaches across the association have been paying their respect to the king, who is now just a few games out from the big moment.
Hall-Of-Fame Point Guard Gets Real On LeBron James
Speaking to the media ahead of the game against the Warriors on Saturday, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd became the latest to speak on LeBron’s upcoming achievement and what it means for his legacy.
“I think it’s great when you talk about what LeBron’s about to do. He didn’t come in as a shooter. He came in as a pass-first, set the table guy. And so I think it gives those guys who have the total package in the sense of playmaking, being able to score, and not having to be a flat-out shooter.”
Kidd also went on to explain that while LeBron’s skill set as a passer and scorer has been huge to his success, longevity has also been the key to his historic run.
“It also goes with longevity and health,” Kidd said. “It goes with Being able to take care of your body and understand what it means to be a pro and not being afraid to spend money on his body to make sure that he can keep on playing for 50 years.”
Fortunately, LeBron himself has stated that he has no plans to retire anytime soon. He’ll be doing his thing for at least a while longer, which means he’ll have even more time to break records and build his case as the greatest player ever.
So far, it doesn’t look like anything can slow him down.
