Bleacher Report

It didn’t take long until everybody realized that Luka Doncic is a one-of-a-kind player. Other stars often shower him in praise because of his unique skill set and he looks like the kind of guy who could turn a franchise around.

That’s why newly-appointed coach Jason Kidd is so excited about having the opportunity to coach him.

And, according to his recent statements, it seems like Kidd doesn’t want Doncic to think that he needs to do everything on his own. Instead, he wants his teammates to help him carry the load:

“I look at Luka as a young Picasso,” Kidd said during the Mavericks’ media day. “(He’s) someone who’s very talented, loves to win and understands how to play the game at a very high level.

“As a coach, I don’t know if anybody told Picasso that he had to use all the paints. But I just want to remind Luka that he can rely on his teammates, and his teammates are going to be there to help him,” he added.

The Mavericks have relied heavily on Doncic throughout his young career in the league. And, while that’s obvious given his talent, he’s been worn out during the playoffs.

Doncic still thinks that there are multiple areas of improvement for him. Moreover, he admitted that he needs to delegate and can’t do everything on his own:

“I think there’s a lot of things I can grow on off the court, on the court,” Doncic said during media day. “Obviously, this is one of them, and I think he’s right. But I’ve still got to prove a lot of things.”

The Dallas Mavericks have a young, up-and-coming team with a bright future. Hopefully, someone will step up and help Doncic take them to a whole new level.
