Up 3-1 over the Memphis Grizzlies, the Los Angeles Lakers are just one win away from the Conference Semi-Finals, which is a miracle for a team that started the season 2-10. While mid-season trades have to be given credit, we must also recognize the work of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Austin Reaves for turning the season around.

Team owner Jeanie Buss has been watching it all unfold from the sidelines, but even she had to admit some surprise at the team’s resolve. Speaking in an interview with People, Buss got real on her team amid their run and explained how easy it would have been to just give up when things looked rough.

“I’m proud of this Lakers team this season,” Buss said. “We started off poorly, and it would’ve been easy to give up. These guys committed to each other and really came in the second half of the season and made a nice playoff push, which is really what the fans want.”

The Lakers made a huge mistake trading for Russell Westbrook, and his limitation she’d the entire team back from reaching their true potential. But now, with Russ gone and replaced with shooters and wing defenders, the Lakers are much better and finally have enough talent around James and Davis to compete with the best.

Can Lakers Win The Title This Season?

Obviously, the Lakers still have a long way to go before they can call themselves champions this year, but they are closer now than they’ve been in years, and many fans feel like this could be the start of another special postseason.

“We got a lot of young guys, I understand that it’s my job to make sure they’re even keel. One game is not going to define the whole series,” said LeBron. “We have to be better. I want everyone to be comfortable when we go on the floor and just play free. Let me worry about the Xs and Os and the tactical things and all the other stuff, I can do that, I have the ability to do that.”

LeBron no doubt sees the opportunity that’s in front of him, which is why he’s playing with everything he’s got. We will find out soon enough if it will be enough to close out the Grizzlies, but it’s safe to say that we’ve all seen enough now to know that the Lakers are for real, and they can beat anyone on their best day.
