From Philadelphia to OKC, Denver, and Detroit, Jerami Grant has donned many different names across his chest during his NBA career.
But in his latest stint with the Trail Blazers, Jerami has found a different level of success. Averaging a career-high 22.3 points per game on 49% shooting, he is thriving in new ways and has even blossomed into a borderline All-Star.
At the end of this season, Jerami is up for free agency, and he will have no shortage of suitors as a two-way wing who can do it all on the floor. After Portland’s loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday, Jerami spoke about his upcoming free agency and which way he’s leaning on his NBA future.
“I ain’t really plan on leaving, said Grant. “I definitely like it here; love it here. The guys have been very welcoming. It’s definitely a family environment; everybody is super cool, got good guys on the team, great organization – Joe (Cronin), Chauncey (Billups), everything. I’m definitely enjoying it here.”
“It’s a lot of stuff that goes into it, that’s why I’m kind of taking my time right now,” Grant said.
As a Portland native, Grant already has roots in the city, and it’s no secret he’s looking for a more long-term situation at this stage of his career.
“I’m sure at this point in his career, he’s looking for a home,” Damian Lillard said. “He’s not looking to be on another team, so in my mind, I just assume it’s more than likely that he’ll be back.”
Grant has been a crucial contributor for the Blazers, and it’s his play that has helped them withstand injuries and setbacks all throughout the season. It remains to be seen if they have what it takes to make a meaningful run this year.

Despite their record, and glaring roster flaws, Portland is still a pretty talented squad on paper, and they might just be a few moves away from being a serious threat. If you ask Dame, though, he’ll tell you they’re good enough to win as they are.
“I think we can be a championship team,” Lillard said. “We’ve got a good mix of veterans with experience and young talented guys. Right now in the league, that’s who you’re seeing are the most successful teams. It’s no longer look at this super team over here. It’s who’s got the talent, who can get up and down and score, who’s fearless, who defends, who has experience and leadership? It’s all of those things that give you a shot to be one of those final teams. You’re seeing it across the league, and I think we fall into that category. We’ve got to be healthy. I’ve played a lot of games, but I’ve been in and out of the lineup with little nagging things with my calf…”
The quote came during brighter days in Portland, but it likely still holds true today. With a 19-19 record, they can still secure a top 6 seed if they make an impressive second-half run here.
Jerami Grant will obviously be a huge part of that, and how it all ends may have big implications for his own future with the franchise.
