The Miami Heat have had a pretty up-and-down season, but they still have a chance to make the playoffs this week when they face the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the play-in tournament.
After that, however, expectations are almost nonexistent for the Heat after an underwhelming campaign. But if you ask Jimmy Butler, he’ll remind you why it’s not a good idea to count out his team against anyone.
“I’m gonna do whatever it takes for my team to win — night in and night out, and honestly, I couldn’t care less what anybody writes, if I’m a good basketball player or a bad basketball player. So as I take on tomorrow’s matchup, and we get that dub, we’ll worry about what goes on down the line. But I think I’m gonna be a decent basketball player at the end of the day.”

With Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro, Miami has a solid foundation of core players that can seemingly compete with the best. The problem for the Heat is their supporting cast, which leaves much to be desired — even after the signing of Kevin Love.
Heading into the playoffs, nobody is really sure how far this team can go, but it definitely won’t be easy. If they win tomorrow’s game against the Hawks, they get to move on to face the red-hot Boston Celtics in the first round.
What Happens If The Heat Flame Out Early Once Again?
For a franchise dedicated to winning, falling short like this is unacceptable, and there has been some talk that Butler might start growing restless if they don’t make any moves to improve the team before next season.
“If they really wanted to overhaul, it would have to start with Jimmy Butler and that is a tricky, tricky proposition,” the executive told Heavy Sports’ Sean Deveney. “He has a home in Miami, but we have seen Jimmy cause some problems in other places, and no one has forgotten that. Minnesota, Philadelphia, Chicago, he has some history, right? So that is a problem.”.
Obviously, a lot is riding on this playoff run, and if they’re able to demonstrate something special here in the most important stretch of games, then it could be enough for the front office to keep their guys together.
If not, things could get wild in Miami pretty quickly.
