JJ Redick Dunked Only Once In His NBA Career: “When You Put All Your VC Into Shooting”

2 Min Read

Even though some scouts are wary when it comes to taking a unidimensional player, some of them are so incredibly good ad one thing that it makes them overlook the rest of their game.

That’s even more obvious with shooters. The league favors shooting so much that if a player has smooth mechanics and is a consistent threat from beyond the arc, he’s still likely to get a shot in the league, even if he doesn’t do many more things.

That might as well be the case with JJ Redick, one of the elite shooters of the game and a master of going through screens and moving without the ball… and not much more.

It’s obvious that Redick wasn’t in the league due to his athletic traits, his defense, or his playmaking. Then again, when it came to shooting, he’s one of the best and most efficient to ever do it.

Even so, there was a time when Redick wanted to show the rest of the world that he could dunk like the rest of the players in the league. That came when he was still with the Orlando Magic and wound up being the only dunk of his career… thus far.

The footage recently emerged again and fans had plenty of hilarious things to say about Redick’s dunk and the fact that he never did it again:

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not dissing Redick whatsoever. I don’t think all players should be dunking and trying to put together a highlight reel, and I honestly believe that he’s a winner and a valuable asset for any contending team.

I’m just saying that he’s so good of a shooter that people don’t even care if he dunks or not. But hey, I’m not gonna lie, I would love to see him try that again.
