Space Jam 2: A New Legacy Didn’t Go Well Last Weekend, Ticket Sales Were Totally Disappointment

LeBron James’ “Space Jam: A New Legacy” took a major hit over the weekend, being surpassed by other movies. Premiered on July 16, the Space Jam sequel was a big hit, bringing many people to the theaters.

However, one week later, things changed. After Universal’s Old and Paramount’s Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins debuted, films like Space Jam and Black Widow decreased their ticket sales. The Warner Bros. production went from No. 1 to No. 4 in just one week.

After opening to $31.05M in first place last weekend, Space Jam: A New Legacy plummeted to No. 4 with an estimated $9.56M, marking a steep 69% drop from its debut. The Warner Bros. release, which debuted day-and-date on HBO Max, has proven to be a front-loaded title in theaters, with its streaming availability likely leading many families with young kids to watch the film at home. The sequel’s total stands at $51.37M to date.

The LeBron James-starred movie drew a variety of reactions. While some people loved it, others weren’t happy with the final result. It was a movie made for kids, but adults took over to see if it was better or worse than the 1996 prequel.

One reason for this situation may be that you can watch the movie on HBO Max, which makes it easier for families who don’t want to attend theaters in the middle of a global pandemic.

The movie can still recover from this, but the picture looks very complex for them. This was expected to be a huge success for Warner Bros., but things have gone the wrong way so far.
