There is a common saying in basketball, good offense beats good defense every time. This has always been true about the biggest superstars in the game. The players that know how to score the ball find ways to do it, and what makes the NBA so exciting is watching them find ways to do it most explosively.

Michael Jordan was a scoring machine when he was in the league; the man averaged over 30 points per game for 7 straight seasons. His Airness was unstoppable, and his midrange game was arguably the greatest of all time, but that wasn’t the only way he could score. Michael Jordan was known for dunking the ball ferociously, his leap was incredible and he would regularly yam it on some of the league’s best defenders.

John Salley Spoke About How He Couldn’t Stop Michael Jordan From Dunking On Him

A part of Michael Jordan’s career was marked by his and the Chicago Bulls‘ rivalry with the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons. That team, led by Isiah Thomas and boasting bruisers like Rick Mahorn and Joe Dumars, made it a point to stop Michael Jordan by being aggressive and physical with him. And while it worked at times, His Airness would ultimately end up getting his buckets, and John Salley recalled a time when MJ destroyed him with a dunk

“Michael Jordan dunked on me on CBS, man. And all I remember, all I was thinking is, that in my park when you got dunked on, they took your sneakers. And I just sat there and I go, I can hear it. Like the only thing in my brain is, my phone’s gonna blow up when I go home.

“I thought I had him. He went up so fast, and then moved in the air. And I just grabbed his face. Cuz I was like, you can’t dunk this. And I grabbed his face and he still dunked it. And his tongue was out.”

There are few things that NBA players hate as much as being put on a poster, but it happens to the best. The fact that Salley tried to foul him but couldn’t stop him is a testament to what a beast Jordan was in his day. Salley would go on to join the Bulls and even win a ring with them, but he was probably reminded of the dunk by Michael Jordan all the time in practice.
