John Salley had the privilege to play with some great legends during his honored NBA career, but the biggest teammate he ever had was none other than His Airness, Michael Jordan. The Chicago Bulls legend made a huge mark on those who played with him, including Salley, his good friend.
The 4x NBA champion has many stories to tell about MJ, including when they went to a club, and the owner made sure everybody knew Jordan was in attendance or explaining the reason why the GOAT isn’t a major Nike owner. Over the years, they lived incredible moments together, and Salley still remembers them.
For instance, he recently joined “Pierre’s Panic Room” to discuss a series of topics, including his relationship with Michael Jordan and all the things they lived through during their NBA careers.
John Salley Reveals How Hard It Was For Women To Approach Michael Jordan
There’s always been this myth about MJ being a lady’s man given his status as a superstar and his influence over those who know him, but for Salley, things were different, as the NBA tried to protect Jordan at all cost, even preventing women from getting close to the six-time NBA champion at clubs.
Salley explained that he traveled with a lot of superstars and knew how seriously people took their security and their reputation, protecting them from undesired people.
“No. You think they’re letting people get to Michael Jordan? You’re tripping. This is what I say – I traveled with Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, that was traveling with right? They’re not letting anybody near ya’ll, dawg. You aint getting no stragglers because there are no stragglers. You’re not letting any of that riffraff near the Messiah. He is more important to the NBA than he is to the Bulls that there was nothing around,”
Salley added that Jordan often declined his invitations to go to the club, but the player once convinced Mike to go out, as he set everything up to give him an entertaining yet lowkey night.
“I went out with Michael in Philly and I begged him to go out and he was like, ‘No, we’re going down to Atlantic City’ and I said, ‘No man, forget that man; they are already on you, just come to the club.’ He said, ‘Sal, I can’t go tonight. I got it hooked up. We go in the back way; I’ll smoke cigars in there…,” Salley added.
There are more stories about Salley and MJ that we’re yet to know, as these two shared incredible moments on and off the court. The NBA knew Jordan was really important to them, and they did everything to protect their wonderboy. The good thing is that Jordan didn’t like to go to clubs and star in wild moments, but he still tried to enjoy his life off the court, playing golf, smoking cigars, and simply minding his business, away from the noise that NBA players hear nowadays.
