John Wall is a former multiple-time All-Star that is currently on the Houston Rockets. He has had numerous serious injuries over the course of his career, but recovered nicely, averaging 20.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.2 RPG in the 2020-21 season, albeit on poor efficiency.

Despite his decent enough season in 2020-21, John Wall has not played during the 2021-22 season for the Houston Rockets. It was reported that John Wall attempted to return to the team despite an agreement between him and the Rockets to sit out while they looked for a trade.

Even with his lack of playing time for the Houston Rockets this year, it seems as though John Wall will be picking up his player option. He is, however, expected to seek a buyout if he isn’t traded, with his preference being to be on a “winning team”. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported the news.

As expected, John Wall is going to exercise his $47.4 million player option for next season, I’m told. After that, the Rockets will have time to look for a trade to move Wall. If Houston can’t find a trade partner for Wall, his representation at Klutch Sports is expected to work with the Rockets on a buyout agreement before next season. A potential buyout agreement would allow Wall to take advantage of the (free agent) market. Wall turns 32 in September. He’s healthy. I’ve heard he’d like to be on a winning team and have a role.

It makes sense for John Wall to accept the player option, as $47.4 million is a lot of money that he simply can’t pass up. He will be on an expiring contract next season, which should make a trade a lot easier as well.

Hopefully, we are able to see John Wall play in the league again sooner rather than later. He might not be that star-level player that he was before, but he can likely still be a contributor to a team in a smaller role.
