Even at 38 years old, LeBron James is still impossible to guard. This season, his 20th in the league, he’s averaging 30 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7 assists per game on 50.8% shooting as L.A.’s most reliable star.

But ahead of the game against the Warriors tonight, one of LeBron’s former teammates (former Laker Jordan Clarkson) revealed one tried and true method to slow down the King.

“Foul him when you can,” Clarkson said. “Just keep fouling until they don’t call no fouls on him.  “

Clarkson was clearly just joking with the response, but it does seem to be rooted in some truth. While James is mostly calm and collected on the basketball court, he has taken a really strong and bizarrely aggressive stance against the referees this season and has made it a point to call them out for what he feels has been incorrect officiating all season long.

It all came to a head in a game against the Boston Celtics, when James disagreed with a no-call at the end of the game. Instead of going the visual route and calling out the refs after the game, James let all his frustration out on the floor in an amazing display of emotion and rage. We don’t know if that incident is what Clarkson was referencing here, but it’s hard not to think about it after his recent comments.

LeBron James And The Lakers Have Declared War Against NBA Refs

It isn’t just LeBron who has taken issue with some of the no-calls this season. The Lakers as a whole have made it a theme this year to diss the officiating and have even gone so far as to complain to the league about it.

“It’s challenging, really challenging. I don’t get it,” said James. “I’m attacking the paint just as much as any of the other guys in this league shooting double-digit free throws a night. I don’t get it. I don’t understand it.”

It remains to be seen how the Lakers will close this season, but the margin for error couldn’t be slimmer. As the 13th seed in the West, every game is a must-win.

Hopefully, LeBron can finally start getting some more calls or we may have to watch him lose his cool again.
