New Orleans star Zion Williamson is having to juggle enormous expectations in his young NBA career. Hailed as the next generational great, he’s got the whole world watching his every move.
While many aren’t yet sold on his abilities, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins has already seen enough. In an appearance on “The Jump,” the former NBA big man gave a glowing review of Williamson, calling him the future face of the league.
“He is must-see TV, he’s the future face of the NBA. And I get it, he don’t pass the eye test right, he’s 6’6” with this bulky frame. When I say the eye test, I’m talking about, y’all look at his body is not ripped up like LeBron James, he walks like he have two left feet. But guess what, the people down in New Orleans baby, they got something special in him. This guy is so special, I love what Van Gundy did by moving him to the point forward position. He can not be stopped.”
While Zion has, admittedly, taken a back seat to guys like Luka and LaMelo this season, he’s playing as good as we’ve ever seen him. Averaging 26.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game on 62% shooting, he has emerged as a true star in this league.
And, at just 20-years-old, there is no doubt he’s going to continue to get better.
Whether or not he’ll be the next LeBron James, however, is something we’ll just have to wait and see.
