Kendrick Perkins has stirred the NBA rumor mill with his recent comments on ESPN’s ‘First Take,’ hinting at the possibility of Stephen Curry teaming up with either LeBron James or Kevin Durant in the future.

“You know what I’ve witnessed watching this Olympic team this summer? Is watching guys develop relationships. And what happened is, while guys were over there at Paris, guys were breaking bread together, guys were having conversations together.”

“And I’m going to say this, this next NBA season is going to be interesting. Because if things don’t go as planned with the Los Angeles Lakers, things don’t go as planned with the Golden State Warriors, or things don’t go as planned with the Phoenix Suns. All of them are in the same conference.”

“I’m looking at it and I’m saying to myself after this NBA season we might see some things, some moving parts, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a reunion with Steph Curry and KD or LeBron James and Steph actually making it happen, or we see Kevin Durant go to Minnesota with Anthony Edwards because we saw it.”

“They had a signature handshake. And so those relationships happen, man. And so, you know, at the end of the day, I want to watch this season right here and see how things work out. But I would not be surprised if we see LeBron James and Steph Curry before the end of LeBron’s career share the floor together.”

"If things don't go as planned [with the Lakers, Warriors, Suns this upcoming season]… I wouldn't be surprised if we see a reunion with Steph Curry and [Kevin Durant] or LeBron James and Steph actually making it happen."

While discussing the bonds formed during the 2024 Paris Olympics, Perkins suggested that the relationships built among NBA stars could lead to seismic shifts in the league if the upcoming season doesn’t go as planned for the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, or Phoenix Suns. This camaraderie, according to Perkins, could lead to some intriguing developments if any of these Western Conference powerhouses falter in the 2024-25 NBA season.

The prospect of Curry reuniting with Durant, or even joining forces with LeBron, is tantalizing for basketball fans. Curry and Durant previously formed one of the most dominant duos in NBA history during their time together with the Warriors, winning two championships in 2017 and 2018. A reunion between these two would undoubtedly send shockwaves through the league, potentially reigniting the Warriors’ championship aspirations.

Equally intriguing is the idea of Curry teaming up with LeBron James. Despite being fierce rivals for much of their careers, particularly during the four consecutive NBA Finals matchups between the Warriors and Cavaliers from 2015 to 2018, the mutual respect between Curry and LeBron is well-documented.

The NBA landscape is ever-evolving, and player movement has become a defining feature of the modern era. As Perkins pointed out, the relationships built during international competitions like the Olympics can often lead to unexpected alliances in the league. While nothing is set in stone, the possibility of Curry teaming up with either Durant or LeBron is a storyline worth watching as the 2024-25 season unfolds.
