Kevin Durant On Surpassing Allen Iverson On All-Time Scoring List: “It Means The World… He Was A Pantheon For Me, One Of Those Guys That I Emulated Every Time I Went Outside To Play With My Friends.”

Kevin Durant is one of the greatest scorers in the history of the NBA. His size, along with his sniper-like shooting ability has allowed him to dominate the NBA in the scoring department, and become one of the most dangerous players to ever play in the NBA.

Durant recently surpassed Allen Iverson on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, with 24, 388 points. Durant is now 25th on the list, behind Ray Allen, and will be looking to climb higher as time goes on. But Durant reflected on surpassing Allen Iverson, and how humbled he was to do so.

In the post-game press conference, Durant spoke about the impact Iverson had on him. He said that he looked up to AI growing up, and would try to imitate him while playing as a kid. So to be able to surpass him was a huge honor and something that puts his career into perspective.

“I mean, it means the world. I dedicated my life to this game at an early age … so I watched all these guys that I’m like passing up. So Iverson, he was a pantheon for me. One of those guys that I emulated every time I went outside and played with my friends. It’s all surreal. I pictured I would be in the league, and had an idea … but to do it is pretty special.”

Durant has actually been emulating Iverson quite a bit this season. Earlier in the season, Durant reached 24,000 career points in his 888th game, the same amount that Allen Iverson took to reach the 24,000 mark in his career.

KD is a gifted scorer that has left his mark on the NBA. The youngest scoring champion in NBA history, Durant has only gotten better with age. And he will probably end up much higher on the all-time scoring list by the time he is done.
