There has been a lot of speculation regarding Kevin Durant’s exit from the Golden State Warriors last summer.
His move to Brooklyn prompted countless rumors, many of which surrounding his relationship with Draymond Green. After a rather heated verbal altercation between the two, nothing was really the same, and many credit that moment as being a deciding factor in his decision to leave.
However, in an appearance on JJ Redick’s podcast, “The Old Man And The Three,” the 2x Finals MVP admitted that it actually helped them grow closer as teammates.
βMe and Draymond, we got better after that actually,β Durant said of the Warriors drama, via Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area. βI felt like I was more locked into the team after that. I felt like he understood me more because we sat down and talked about that whole situation.β
Strangely enough, that little spat allowed KD and Draymond a platform to work things out and their relationship apparently grew stronger as a result.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep Durant in town, as he still wound up signing with Brooklyn months later. While it remains to be seen how the rest of his career will go, it’s hard to call his time in Golden State anything other than a success.
And Draymond, for better or worse, was a major part of it.
