Back in 2019, Klay Thomson suffered a heartbreaking ACL injury that would sideline him for the entirety of the following season. Things got even worse when he tore his Achilles months later.
It’s been years since Klay has last played an NBA game, but his return is approaching quickly.
According to the team, he is slated to come back in mid-December, which means we’re just two weeks away from seeing Thompson finally take his place on the court again.
In the meantime, the Warriors guard continues to slowly work his way back to the NBA. One of the steps in that process is a stint in the G-League, which is where Klay is currently. And, after dominating his first full practice (he apparently went 18-18 from the field), he couldn’t help but contain his excitement.
“I hate to use the phrase ‘can’t wait,’ because I love to be present in my life,” Thompson said. via Jack Maloney of CBS Sports. “But I cannot wait. I really, really enjoy being a Warrior.”
According to Santa Cruz Warriors head coach Seth Cooper, there were no limitations on the sharpshooter, and he looked good with the reigns removed.
“He’s cleared for full go, so everything we did was full 100% he was going,” he said. “There was no holding him back. There was no pulling back, it was just letting him go and letting him experience playing all out. He did that, and he looked really good doing it.”
Even without Thompson, the Warriors are doing pretty well. They’re 18-2 and at the top of the Western Conference. Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Andrew Wiggins have all done their part to return the Dubs to greatness.
With Klay back in the fold, however, there may be no stopping them from going all the way.
