The late NBA legend Kobe Bryant was one of the best trash talkers in the history of the league. One of the biggest reasons behind it was the fact that he had the ability to backup his trash talk with his skills.

One of the most well-known trash talking stories featuring Kobe Bryant took place against Gerald Wallace and the Brooklyn Nets back in 2012. We are talking about the time when the Mamba bet $500K that he would make a free throw.

“I bet I make this b***h. How much you wanna put on it? I’ll put $500K on it right here.”

Kobe Bryant showed immense confidence in his ability to make the free throw for half a million. And guess what? Kobe made the free throw with ease.

Apart from the final free throw, Bryant had a sensational game that helped the Lakers register a 95-90 win over the Nets. Kobe recorded 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting 8-15 from the field. On top of that, Kobe shot 8-10 from the charity stripe as well.

Kobe Bryant Was A Smart Trash Talker

There are many skills that a player can use on the court to make sure that he stays ahead of the competition. Talking trash smartly is one of those skills, and Kobe Bryant had certainly mastered that in his career.

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas recently talked about how Kobe Bryant used to smartly trash talk to opponents.

“It was trash, but it was intelligent trash. Like it was an intelligent trash, and he’d make you always second guess what you’re doing. It was just random stuff like, ‘Oh, how many fouls you got? I think you’ve got two, and here comes your third’. It was just one of those things where when you played him, you’re playing a mental war.”

Kobe would mentally wear down his opponents, and it ultimately resulted in him getting the edge over the said opponents. While it may seem like a harsh tactic, it worked like a charm for Bryant.
