Kyrie Irving spent a lot of the early parts of this season dealing with major controversy. The Brooklyn Nets struggled to start the season, in large part thanks to the games that Kyrie Irving missed. However, the team rallied together, and since his return, they have been playing at an elite level, competing for the first seed in the Eastern Conference.

The star point guard is playing at such a high level, that many fans think it’s a no-brainer for him to get another All-Star appearance. Kyrie Irving is averaging over 25 points per game to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. The fit with Kevin Durant and the rest of the Nets’ roster looks lethal, and there is a solid chance for them to make a run to the championship. And Irving has spoken about what’s changed for him.

Kyrie Irving Says He Is In Control Of His Emotions And He Has Taken Responsibility For His Game

It’s common knowledge that Kyrie Irving is very conscious when it comes to social and political issues. The slight problem in recent times was that his views were starting to eclipse what he was doing on the court. Now while Kyrie is still likely to tweet something about what he believes in, the negative noise around him has been limited. And he spoke to the New York Post about his mental state and the work he is doing to achieve some great results this season.

“Basketball is a very simple art form, so if I don’t bring all my extra distractions or anything that I’m going through mentally into the game, then I feel like we have a great chance of winning every game. That’s something I’ve taken responsibility for on my own end, just to positively reinforce that we can win games no matter what’s going on.

“Just being mentally prepared, using a lot of sessions in the summer of challenging myself to be ready for these moments where I don’t have to be swayed emotionally, I’m in control of my emotions, in control of my thoughts.”

Kyrie Irving is one of the most purely talented ballers the NBA has seen in its modern history, and watching him get back to basics and focus on his game is heartening for most fans. Athletes using their platform to express their beliefs is always something to be appreciated, but ultimately, fans want to see them hooping on the court more than anything else.
