Since adding Kyrie Irving to the roster, the Dallas Mavericks have struggled to stay competitive. They are currently out of the play-in tournament and look all set to miss it.

Despite having such a disastrous season, Kyrie Irving recently revealed the fun part about the messy campaign of the Dallas Mavericks. He shared his views following the Mavs’ recent loss against the Atlanta Hawks.

“We’ve just been losing tough ones, emotionally draining, but at the same time, we’re professionals,” Irving said, according to The Dallas Morning News. “So I think the fun part of it is we still have a glimmer of hope, a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel of where we can still sneak in. But at the same time, I’m at peace with just our effort, with spurts throughout the games. We’ve just got to be able to finish better as a team.”

The glimmer of hope that Kyrie is talking about is the fact that the Mavericks can still mathematically clinch a spot in the play-in tournament. But keeping their recent form in mind, the chances of that happening are astronomically low.

Can The Dallas Mavericks Clinch A Play-In Spot?

Following the heartbreaking loss against the Hawks, the Mavericks have a 37-42 record and hold the 11th seed in the Western Conference.

It’s their seventh loss in the last eight games. However, there is still a chance for the team to advance to the play-in tournament.

The Mavericks would need to go 3-0 in the final three games of the regular season. But that’s not the end of it. They would also need the Oklahoma City Thunder to lose their last three games of the season as well.

As of now, the Thunder are the 10th seed in the West with a 38-41 record. Either way, as Luka Doncic recently admitted, the Mavs’ season post the Kyrie Irving trade has gone way different from what anyone imagined.

The way that the team is playing right now, it would be a miracle if they have a deep run in the postseason, of course, if they even make it to the playoffs.
