Kysre Gondrezick’s WNBA Career

Kysre Gondrezick, the fourth pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft, entered the league with high expectations. Selected by the Indiana Fever, she became the highest draft pick in West Virginia University’s history and the first No. 4 pick for the Fever.

During her rookie season, Gondrezick played in 19 games, averaging 1.9 points and 1.0 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game. Despite limited playing time, she ranked fifth among all rookies in 3-point field goals made and assists per game, demonstrating her potential as a valuable contributor.

In the 2024 season, Gondrezick joined the Chicago Sky, where she has appeared in four games. Unfortunately, her performance has been modest, averaging 0.5 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game while shooting 16.7% from the field. This season has been challenging for Gondrezick as she works to find her rhythm and make a more significant impact on the court.

Gondrezick’s collegiate career was impressive. She began at the University of Michigan in the 2016-17 season, earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors. After transferring to West Virginia, she became a two-time All-Big 12 selection.

Over her college career, Gondrezick averaged 16.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 32.4 minutes per game. In her senior season at West Virginia, she posted averages of 19.5 points, 4.5 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 37.3 minutes per game, showcasing her scoring and playmaking abilities.

Kysre Gondrezick was born on July 27, 1997, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She was named the 2016 Michigan Miss Basketball and averaged an astounding 40.5 points per game in her senior year at Benton Harbor High School. Notably, she scored 72 points in a high school playoff game, highlighting her scoring prowess early on.

Her athletic lineage is notable; her late father, Grant Gondrezick, was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the 1986 NBA Draft and also played for the Los Angeles Clippers. Her mother, Lisa, won a national championship with Louisiana Tech in 1988.

Gondrezick has faced significant personal challenges, including being a victim of domestic violence in 2023. The incident involved her then-boyfriend, NBA player Kevin Porter Jr., leading to legal proceedings and media attention. The case concluded with Porter Jr. accepting a plea deal, which resulted in his release from the Houston Rockets and eventual signing with Greek club PAOK.

Despite these challenges, Kysre Gondrezick continues to strive for success on and off the court, embodying resilience and determination as she navigates her professional basketball career.
