LA Clippers Guard Amir Coffey Arrested For Loaded Gun Possession

Los Angeles Clippers guard Amir Coffey was arrested by LA police on Sunday when was found in possession of a loaded gun.

Per TMZ Sports, Coffey was pulled over for a routine traffic stop after he was caught speeding at around 2:30 AM. An ensuing search of his vehicle saw the cops find a loaded firearm. 

A Daily Mail report had details of the arrest:

“The driver was cited for speeding. One of the passengers was cited for possession of marijuana. The other passenger was Amir Coffey from the NBA Clippers. He was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm in vehicle 25400 (a) 3 PC. Booking # 6650217.”

It further added:

“Coffey could face up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine for the arrest, but that would be unlikely for a first-time offender.”

The search was conducted after they thought they smelled marijuana in the car. The most recent update was that he was booked but released four hours later around 5:05 AM and is due in court for a “hearing on the matter later next month.”

During his time with the Clippers, the 26-year-old averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

As far as his contract with the Clippers goes, Coffey only has two years left on his current contract. In this upcoming 2023-24 season, he is set to make $3.6 million and his salary will then slightly bump up in the final year to $3.9 million in 2025.
