Every loss during an NBA season stings, but some hurt a whole lot more than others.

For the Los Angeles Lakers, their loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night is going to hurt an awful lot and Hall of Famer James Worthy called it their worst defeat of the year.

The Lakers were trailing for much of this game but then proceeded to take control in the fourth quarter. They seemingly had the win in the bag as they led 109-105 with less than 10 seconds remaining, but things went horribly wrong from then on out.

Anthony Davis first fouled Maxi Kleber who was attempting a three-pointer and the German connected on all three of his free throws. Davis was then fouled on the other end and he made just one out of two, which gave the Mavs a shot at the win. On the final play, the Lakers focused on Kyrie Irving, which left Kleber open and he drained the game-winner at the buzzer over Davis to drop the Lakers to 34-37.

Davis, who had 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block, undid all that good work with his late-game blunders as the Lakers lost 111-110. Their fans were pissed after the defeat, with Davis understandably getting a lot of the blame for the defeat.

The Lakers Will Need To Put This Behind Them In A Hurry

The players seemed absolutely devastated on the court after the loss, as you might expect. The Mavs had just snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and the Lakers aren’t in a position where they can afford to have losses like these. Resting AD and losing to the Houston Rockets was bad enough, but to then follow it up with this loss is just brutal.

LeBron James is not close to a return, so he can’t help them out in any way on the court in these next few games. This group will have to show what they’re made of and make a statement when they take on the Orlando Magic on Sunday. All is not lost by any means, but it could be if they don’t respond well to this devastating defeat.
