In what comes as a startling development and reads as bad news for the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James might not be suiting up anytime soon.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst on his The Hoop Collective podcast, gave the dire news. “From what I’ve heard on LeBron, he is not close,” he said.

“I know that everybody said the three weeks, but I think it was very clear three weeks is when he’s going to get an official re-evaluation,” he further added. It didn’t mean he’s coming back in three weeks. I know that LeBron has played through injuries in the past, I’m not 100 percent sure this is an injury you can play through.”

The 38-year-old veteran has already missed the last nine games for the Lakers as they aim for a playoff berth. While they have fared well in his absence, the team will need a healthy James to make a deeper run in the playoffs.

This comes as a stark contrast to what The Athletic’s Jovan Buha had to say earlier. The insider suggested that the forward’s recovery was well ahead of schedule

How Big A Blow Is LeBron James’ Extended Absence For The Los Angeles Lakers?

The latest report will surely come as a blow for a team that is still, in many ways, reliant on James to lead them through crunch situations. Without the forward in the mix, the side, despite the addition of shooters in D’Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley, will need his scoring prowess to see the team through.

With Davis and Russell doing the bulk of the damage, the Lakers will hope that James is actually fit and raring to go come playoff time. With 12 games remaining, the unit is locked in a tight Western conference as they look to make the final dash,

James himself had promising updates when he posted an image of him recovering in a bacta tank of sorts, followed by his shooting practice ahead of the Lakers’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

It remains to be seen how the Lakers fare in James’ absence, especially if he ends up missing the start of the postseason.
