• Three-time NBA Champion A.C. Green has showered praise on Anthony Davis

• Green compared AD’s skill set to Dirk Nowitzki and Karl Malone

• Green played eights seasons for the Lakers, winning three rings and making one All-Star Game

The Lakers have a rich history of big men on their team. From Wilt Chamberlain to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Shaquille O’Neal, and now, Anthony Davis.

Davis is one of the most unique big men the NBA has seen, with his two-way ability that fits effortlessly in the modern NBA. Former Lakers’ great A.C. Green spoke on ‘Scoop B Selects’ and said Davis has bits of Dirk Nowitzki and Karl Malone’s game in him.

“AD has a little bit of Dirk Nowitzki in him, he has a little bit of Karl Malone in him from the power standpoint at times in the paint by playing big and dominant but he was one of those big guys that almost was the big trend, ok?”

Nowitzki and Malone are arguably the two greatest scorers the power forward position has seen. Davis can’t score as well as the other two, but his defensive prowess outranks Dirk and Malone.

AD averaged 22.6 points, 14.1 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks per game in the 2023 Playoffs, often being the best player on the court even when LeBron James was playing.

Anthony Davis Borrowing Skills From All-Time Greats

To become an all-time great, you need to maximize what the generations before you brought to the game. Comparing AD to Nowitzki and Malone isn’t necessarily the best comparable talent that we have seen in the league.

Davis plays very similarly to Kevin Garnett in their ability to impact both ends of the floor. Nowitzki, Malone, and Garnett all have had a season where they won the MVP and established their dominance over the regular season. AD has been in contention, but his health has never allowed him to play enough games for a realistic shot.

The 2023-24 Lakers will look at AD to shoulder most of the load, especially with LeBron entering his 21st season in the NBA. It’s his time to show the world he’s a top-five talent in the league still, if not the best player.
