Lakers Will Reportedly Use Dennis Schroder As Primary Defender For Players Like Stephen Curry Or Ja Morant

Lakers have plans for new addition Dennis Schroder and his defensive talents, potentially putting him to guard players like Stephen Curry and Ja Morant.

The Los Angeles Lakers signed one of the best remaining free agents in recent hours after Dennis Schroder thrived in the 2022 EuroBasket tournament. After spending the 2020/21 NBA season with the Purple and Gold and reportedly turning down $84 million to stay with the team, he wandered around the league, spending last season with the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets.

Now it’s time to finish some deals in Los Angeles and show that he can help the Lakers compete for a championship, which didn’t happen in 2021. This move gives the team some flexibility, although the fact that they have four guards on the roster could be problematic.

Darvin Ham appears to have a plan for everything and everybody on the Lakers, and Schroder’s addition hasn’t changed that. The German point guard will be used a lot thanks to his abilities, but also put in specific situations to help his squad stop the biggest threats they’ll face.

Dennis Schroder Will Be Used To Guard Players Like Stephen Curry Or Ja Morant

Dennis’ defensive impact could be a big addition to the Lakers, and a recent report from the Los Angeles Times suggests that the player will be used against high-movement point guards like current NBA Finals MVP Stephen Curry and the 2021 MIP Ja Morant.

“Sources said the Lakers hope to use Beverley as a defender against top-level wings, while using a player like Schroder to chase high-movement point guards such as Ja Morant and Stephen Curry,” reported LA Times.

The Lakers couldn’t land Kyrie Irving this summer, but they’ve been adding certain players to try to fix some issues. Patrick Beverley and Dennis Schroder fit that description, but it remains to be seen if they’re as effective on the court as they look on paper. This upcoming season will be challenging for them, and everybody wants to see what will happen with the Lakers after an entertaining summer.
