Ja Morant Opens Up On Playing Against LeBron James In His Rookie Year: “I Actually Got Bron And AD’s Jersey After The Same Game. That Was Pretty Much A Big-Time Moment For Me.”

Ja Morant named swapping jerseys with LeBron James and Anthony Davis as one of the biggest moments during his rookie season in the NBA.

Looking at Ja Morant’s refined game, there’s no way anyone can say that he has been in the league for just three seasons. In such little time, Jas has improved a lot and will only get better in the coming seasons.

Last season, he took the leap and really stepped into stardom. He helped the Memphis Grizzlies reach the playoffs and also made the first All-Star appearance of his career. Keeping that in mind, most expect him to carry the Grizzlies to an NBA title in the coming years.

Morant’s game has a certain swagger to it, and more often than not, it looks like he doesn’t care about what players or fans think about him. That might be Ja’s current demeanor, but during his rookie season, he was awestruck after entering the NBA as well.

Meeting LeBron James Was a Big-Time Moment For Ja Morant

Just like most NBA fans, meeting the biggest stars in the league is a huge moment for rookie players as well. When Morant first played against one of the faces of the league, it was evident that he enjoyed it too. Yes, we are talking about when a rookie Morant faced off against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In a recent podcast, Morant labeled it as a huge moment for him and something that we are sure he will remember throughout his NBA career.

“Bron … I actually got Bron and AD’s jersey after the same game. That was pretty much a big-time moment for me. Obviously, my rookie year, playing against the top guys was pretty much like a starstruck moment like, ‘Wow.’ I was just watching him on TV couple of years ago, even last year when I was at Murray watching him play. And now I’m actually lacing it up and going back and forth with him.”

Morant named LeBron James as the ideal jersey swap during his rookie year. It’s clear that he respects James, as he once proudly claimed that there can never be another LeBron James in the league.

On top of that, Morant has seemingly impressed LeBron with his growth as the King praised Morant after this incredible Game 2 performance against the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 playoffs. With LeBron nearing his retirement, will he pass the torch to Morant? The Grizzlies star certainly seems to be on the right path.
